The Melbourne Racing Club (MRC) is one of Australia's most prestigious Sports, Events and Property Development companies. As well as running elite horse racing at Caulfield, Ladbrokes Park (Sandown) and Mornington Racecourses, we own 14 pub venues under the Pegasus Leisure Group (PLG), an emerging collection of owned events such as The Peninsula Picnic and Whiskey, Wine and Fire, and the MRC Foundation, our charitable arm.This is an exciting opportunity for a permanent part time (0.6 FTE) Paralegal to join the Legal, Risk & Compliance department based at Caulfield Racecourse. Reporting to the Senior Legal Counsel. In this role, you will assist the legal team across a broad range of legal issues, from contracts management, to mergers & acquisitions, liquor and gaming regulation, to general commercial law advice.The successful candidate will be either a penultimate- or final-year law student or an established paralegal, with the ability to work independently and proactively to assist the legal team whilst working to streamline processes. The ideal candidate will also understand basic contractual drafting, possess strong organisational skills, and a willingness to learn and develop expertise across a range of legal issues.DutiesManage internal contract register system, including working with MRC’s  software provider to further improve and configure the system, and coordinating staff access and training.Responsibility for maintaining legal registers, including intellectual property and ASIC company and business name registrations.Assist with drafting and review of legal letters, standard form contracts and terms and conditions.Assist with acquisitions and sales within MRC, including assisting with due diligence and settlement processes.Assist with the creation of legal precedents within MRC.Legal research across a wide range of areas of law.Assistance in managing external legal advisors on litigation, trademark and regulatory matters.Ad hoc legal administrative and secretarial duties, including invoice processing and proofreading.Skills and ExperienceIdeally suited to a penultimate- or final-year law student, or for someone with paralegal experience within an in-house legal team or law firm, preferably with experience across a broad range of legal issues.Strong legal communication skills, with demonstrated experience of the ability to digest and simplify complex legal issues, and communicate the outcome with clarity, both in writing and verbally.Highly advanced skills in Microsoft Word and Outlook, with the ability to learn and adapt to new systems.Proven ability of attention to detail, consistently producing accurate and high-quality work.Ability to prioritise and time manage to deliver outcomes within agreed timeframes, and manage stakeholder expectations.Experience within sports, events or hospitality industry highly desirable.What’s in it for you?Free onsite parking or a short walk from Caulfield StationOngoing learning & development opportunities through the organisation-wide DRIVE Development programAccess to our year-round well-being initiatives including our Employee Assistance Program for staff and familyFlexible working arrangements to support a work-life balanceRacing Industry Member passes, discounts across our family of brands and free tickets to a wide range of eventsDiscounted coffee at Caulfield Glasshouse located next to our Head OfficePaid Volunteer and Parental LeaveMelbourne Racing Club values differences in gender, age, ethnicity, race, cultural background, disability, religion and sexual orientation and encourages all suitable applicants to apply for this role.  AUD Caulfield East 3145
