Senior Statutory & Compliance Lead
We have a fantastic opportunity for a Senior Statutory & Compliance Lead to join our Finance Department on a full-time basis, located at Caulfield Racecourse.
The Senior Statutory & Compliance Lead is responsible for the external reporting obligations of the Club, end-to-end external audit process, taxation (inclusive of Fringe Benefits Tax), payment time reporting, ad-hoc consultations, mandatory sustainability reporting, and Modern Slavery governance and risk management.

What will your responsibilities be?
- Research, analyse and prepare draft disclosure notes for the financial statements for submission with relevant authorities.
- Prepare and present accounting decision papers on technical accounting matters for consideration by management, well-considered business impacts, identification of reporting requirements/journal entries and accounting policies.
- Ensure overall tax compliance, accuracy and timeliness of tax reporting, building strong relationships with external tax advisors.
- Ownership of the taxation requirements for the Club and associated businesses, including the accurate management and timely submission of Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT) obligations.
- Champion the Club’s mandatory sustainability reporting obligations.
- Lead the organisation’s response to the Modern Slavery Act 2018.
- Build robust relationships with external auditors and form regular and open channels of communication.
- Identify and mitigate audit risks by improving processes and driving implementation of finance best practices.
- Deliver timely resolutions to challenging accounting queries that impact the wider club ensuring accurate financial reporting in the general ledge.
- Provide technical accounting support for the wider finance team. Familiarity with AASB 16 Leases is highly desirable.
- Ensure proactive approach to knowledge acquisition with regards to changes in accounting policy and regulatory environment.
Qualifications & Experience Essential
- Post graduate and professional accounting membership in a recognised Chartership.
- Minimum eight years’ experience in accounting.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting/finance.
- Minimum three years in a similar role to this position description.
- Significant experience in Microsoft Office Suite. Including Excel, Outlook, Teams, PowerPoint.

- Strong numerical accuracy.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to handle large volumes of data and summarise in a meaningful way.
- Extensive knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards and IFRS application.
- Extensive knowledge of Australian Taxation Law including Income Tax.
- Working knowledge of Australian indirect taxes including GST and FBT.
