We have a fantastic opportunity for a Senior Financial Accountant to join our Finance Department on a full-time basis, located at Caulfield Racecourse.The role of the Senior Financial Accountant is to oversee and manage the financial reporting and accounting processes of the organisation.The Melbourne Racing Club (MRC) is proud to be recognised as a 2022, 2023 & 2024 Winner of The Australian Business Awards for Employer of Choice. As well as running elite horse racing at Caulfield, Sportsbet Sandown and Mornington Racecourses, we own 15 club and hotel venues under the Pegasus Leisure Group (PLG).What will your responsibilities be?Manage the month-end reconciliation process in line with financial reporting deadlines and ensuring all GL balances are true and correct.Ensure venues and head office support teams are adhering to policies, procedures and deadlines to support month-end processes.Review, improve and ensure adherence to all financial policies and procedures within the PLG business.Coordinate year-end finalisation of general ledger and liaise with audit for all PLG related requests.Review and improve system integrations to improve the efficiency of the reconciliation process.Actively promote a strong working relationship between the PLG finance team, finance support team and venue management.Lead the month-end closing process, ensuring completion of the P&L within a 5-day timeframe.Coordinate the completion of all quarterly PLG balance sheet rec packs for sign off within 10 days of month end. There must be no material, unexpected variances booked at year-end.Contribute to the development and delivery of financial policies, guidelines, and protocols to ensure the company complies with regulations and good financial practice. Qualifications & Experience EssentialAccounting Degree and CPA qualifiedExperience interpreting and applying key financial indicators to make better business decisions.5+ years of experience in accounting or finance, with a solid understanding of general accounting principles and practices.Involvement in internal or external audits, including preparing for audits and liaising with auditors.Experience in budgeting processes, financial forecasting, and variance analysis. Skills & ExperienceAccounting Systems knowledgeAdvanced ExcelTechnical accounting knowledgeHolds self and others accountable to meet commitments.Makes sense of complex, high quantity, and sometimes contradictory information to effectively solve problems.Plans and prioritises work to meet commitments aligned with organisational goals.Develops and delivers multi-mode communications that convey a clear understanding of the unique needs of different audiences.Works with full competence to interpret and apply knowledge of laws, regulations and policies in area of expertise. Qualifications & Experience Essential

  • Accounting Degree and CPA qualified
  • Experience interpreting and applying key financial indicators to make better business decisions.
  • 5+ years of experience in accounting or finance, with a solid understanding of general accounting principles and practices.
  • Involvement in internal or external audits, including preparing for audits and liaising with auditors.
